Solutions for ballasted (gravel) roofs

In the case of a ballasted waterproofing system, the waterproofing membrane is covered with a layer of gravel. This compensates for wind stresses and protects the membrane against other external influences.

Classic weighted roofs have been proving their durability all over the world for years. In addition, they are compatible with most flat roofs and with the most common supports. Sika has evolved over the past 30 years into a leading supplier of such roof waterproofing systems.

Thanks to the product range of Sika® PVC/TPO membranes, Sika is able to offer single-ply and liquid membranes for this type of roofing, adapted to the specific needs of the customer.

• The layer of fire-retardant gravel contributes considerably to improving the fire resistance of the waterproofing complex. The gravel also prevents the spread of flames on the roof.

SIKA® Single Layer PVC/TPO Membranes

Waterproofing systems weighted with single-ply Sika® PVC/TPO membranes are applied conventionally.

• The single-ply membrane and the other elements of the roof structure (including the insulation) are loose laid
• The set is ballasted with a layer of gravel of at least 50 mm and 80 kg/m2
• The gravel protects the roof waterproofing system against the suction forces of the wind
